44:A Tarot for Sietse van Erve: Ruaridh Law

44 is a physical Tarot deck, a self-designed computer music performance environment, an installation, and a talk about accessibility, storytelling, inspiration and not relying on things mapping to other things. In small groups, the artist and audience change roles and swap stories, creating together an audiovisual piece unique to the sitting, whilst also reading the archetypes of the cards and thinking about the stories that bind us together.

Sessions will take place on Sat 25th at 2.30pm, 4.30pm, 6.30pm and 8.30pm and on Sunday 26th at 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

Each session will last 30 mins

Ruaridh Law is a sound artist and musician based in Ayrshire, Scotland.

Over 20 years he has performed in groups, in collaborations and solo across a wide range of festivals, arts spaces, venues and clubs as performer, improviser, DJ and artist, as well as hosting radio shows and writing.

Latterly his interests have been in sound art, especially involving psychogeography and esoteric interests. He has been commissioned for new work from organisations such as FutureEverything, the Anthony Burgess Foundation, Sanctuary, Unfix and Unconscious Archives in the UK; FIBER and Incubate in Amsterdam; and AAA in San Francisco. These works have ranged from intimate audio performance, to large-scale outdoor works combining sound walks, improvised performance and experimental storytelling.

His artistic focuses are on data-visualisation, human voices and their stories, unusual paradigms for performance and composing, and marrying abstraction to a beating human heart. These have manifested themselves in a tarot deck that generates music, sequential stories told over film and radio, right-wing propaganda twisted and sanitised into more worthwhile content and a walk through a forest and its imagined mythologies in the dead of night – as well as countless CD, DVD, vinyl and other music releases. He runs the Broken20 multimedia label, which has been releasing experimental music, DVD, cassette, vinyl and mixed media works over 10 years and 50+ releases.
