‘Deliberately inconclusive investigations into SOUNDS & SHADES of 3 cubic meters of Galloway Forest’ is the latest manifestation of Helmut’s curiosity into those encounters that have no lasting residue but our memory – encounters that happen in time without leaving a material body behind:
Sounds and Shades
In durational performances he will zoom into randomly chosen but clearly defined areas to record and share observations utilising automatic writing, drawing, amplification, notations and conversations in performative inquiries.
Helmut Lemke is a sound artist. Through creative, deep engagement with more-than-human elements of environments he explores and uncovers connections. Thus Lemke aims to communicate alternative strategies of experience and acceptance.
The world, the natural and urban environment, the people in any given system are inspiration and communication, in this way they cooperate with Helmut as equals.
The creation process of his art is an essential part of his art.
Sound, the audible, the inaudible and the imaginable, is the basis of his work. Since starting his journey into the world of sound over 40 years ago, he investigates sounds that are around us, some are obvious, some are familiar, some have to be found. He shares process based work responding to his investigations through performances, concerts, exhibitions and teaching.
‘Deliberately inconclusive investigations into SOUNDS & SHADES of 3 cubic meters of Galloway Forest’ is supported by Eco Art SCIO
Eco Art SCIO is delighted to be able to fund some extraordinary environmental art projects for Sanctuary 2021. We connect art, community and sustainability for environmental and social justice. By embracing the transformational power of art, we look to creatively explore ways of reconnection with the more than human world, seeking ways of opening up opportunities for human and plant flourishing based on systems driven by values other than profit. Developing stronger connections to the world around us, we invest in developing an awareness, interest and a caring attitude. This is a powerful basis for change. https://www.ecoartcharity.org/
